A 38-year-old Norwalk man is facing severe penalties if convicted of the criminal charges against him. The man was arrested on drug charges late last week by Special Services officers at the south Norwalk train station. He is suspected of transporting heroin into Norwalk from NYC. According to court documents, he had 35 bags of heroin in his possession. He is currently being held on $100,000 bond.
In a separate incident a 20-year-old female was arrested for shoplifting about $400 worth of baby formula at a local department store later that same day. Store security detained her and she was arrested when police arrived. After a search at the police station, police discovered she had an undisclosed number of glassine envelopes printed with "Xit" on them. The envelopes contained a white powdery substance that later tested positive for heroin. She was also in possession of two syringes, police said.

New legislation requested by Connecticut prison officials would require lewd acts committed by prison inmates to be considered public indecency and punishable as a class D felony. A Class D felony conviction carries up to five years in prison and would require the inmate to register as a sex offender on the states sex offender registry. The prison sentence would be added on to the inmate's current sentence.
According to department officials at the Northern Correctional Institution, it is an ongoing problem at many of the state's prisons because inmates use such acts to intimidate guards, counselors and other prison workers. A spokesperson for the Connecticut Department of Corrections said if a person were to act out like this out in public they would be arrested and charged with a sex crime and labeled a sex offender, so why does that same tenant not hold true on the inside, he asked.

The Connecticut House has voted to give Secret Service agents the same powers as local police officers in the state. The bill passed by a 90-52 vote after much debate. Some State Representative's wondered why the bill was needed at all, while others argued the Secret Service needs the same abilities as local police in coordinating law enforcement efforts in the state.
If the measure passes the State Senate, Connecticut would join 10 other states that currently provide full police powers to federal agents. The bill allows federal Secret Service agents to obtain arrest and search warrants, like the local police, for such crimes as identity theft, money laundering, white collar crimes, computer crimes, forgery, larceny and other financial crimes.

Leaking engine fluid led police to the vehicle at a gas station 1.5 miles away on Connecticut Avenue that had been involved in a one-car accident causing damage to public property. When police located the vehicle they found the suspect tending to damages to the front end and passenger side doors of his vehicle, and the left rear tire was completely missing. Once they smelled alcohol on his breath they administered a breathalyzer test.
After failing field sobriety tests he was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane and evading responsibility. A Norwalk Police Sergeant said the suspect was driving with a blood alcohol content of more than double the legal limit of .08. He apparently lost control of his car while attempting a left-hand turn and struck a rock, which spun his vehicle 360-degrees causing it to strike a stop sign knocking it down.

According to the Women's Center of Greater Danbury, 1 in 4 females and 1 in 6 men are the victim of unwanted sexual conduct or domestic assault in their lifetime. Many people might think the issue only affects women; however more and more men are reporting domestic assaults. Domestic violence and sexual assault are a serious problem in today's society so it is important to raise awareness of the issue.
A recent Sumner Police report in the Bonney Lake and Sumner local newspaper reported 3 separate incidences involving domestic violence or assault, 2 of which were reported by males claiming they had been assaulted by their girlfriends. It is a serious issue but what many people do not understand is even if the alleged victim decides not to press charges, once the police are involved, a prosecutor will decide whether to pursue charges against the alleged perpetrator, not the victim.

A convenience store on New Canaan Avenue was robbed last week and a 27-year-old Norwalk man has been arrested and charged with the crime. After the suspect was apprehended by police, the store clerk and two eyewitnesses identified the man as the robber. According to accounts filed in the case, the clerk arrived at the store to relieve his coworker for her lunch break when the suspect, a regular customer at the store, passed the female store employee on his way into the store.

The clerk handed the suspect $10 bills and called the police when the suspect left the premises. When the suspect was apprehended, he did not have the cash on him or a gun, however police said he did have a lottery pencil.

A 26-year-old man was pulled over by state police last week after police clocked him driving 120 miles per hour on Route 8/25 South in Bridgeport. Police suspected he was driving under the influence while interviewing him and after investigating found he was in the possession of a large quantity of prescription pills in an unmarked container, and almost $5,000 in cash.
Police charged the man with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, reckless driving, possession of narcotics and possession of narcotics with the intent to sell, as well as other narcotics charges. When multiple factors are involved in an arrest, such as a large amount of cash along with the way drugs are packaged, police tend to upgrade the charges to include more severe penalties, if convicted.

Police responded to an anonymous report of two people involved in a fight inside a car parked in a driveway on Muller Avenue. Authorities found one man naked in the back seat with the car running and the driver side door open. After attempting to get the man's attention by tapping on the car window the man inside the car pulled his pants up and put on a shirt. The police reported the man never acknowledged them and had a glazed look in his eyes.
When they noticed he had something in his hand they tried again to get his attention. However, they were unable to get his attention and instead shot him with a Taser gun. After pulling him out of the car they found the man was holding a charger for a cellphone. Apparently the man could not explain to police why he was naked or in the car and could not remember if he had been with anyone. Police charged the man with second-degree breach of peace, interfering with an officer and simple trespass. Perhaps a criminal defense attorney could help determine if these charges would hold up under scrutiny.
