A 31-year-old Connecticut man was recently sentenced to 20 years in prison after he was found guilty on two drug charges. The drug charges were related to the man's role in a drug trafficking ring located in the southwestern part of the state.
The 31-year-old man from Stamford was found guilty on one count of conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more of crack cocaine and one count of possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of crack cocaine. The Stamford man was found guilty by a federal jury last month.
The Connecticut man was arrested as a part of a six-month investigation dubbed "Operation Big Loot." The multiple month investigation involved national agencies including the ATF and DEA and the Stamford police Narcotics and Organized Crime Squad. The 31-year-old was not the only one arrested in the cocaine trafficking ring. Fifty-one other people were arrested on state and federal drug charges.
According to the criminal suit brought against the 31-year-old, the Stamford man traveled from Stamford to the Bronx, New York from September to November 2009 to purchase nearly 550 grams of crack cocaine. The prosecution said after he obtained the drugs, the man then sold the crack cocaine. On the day of the man's arrest, police also raided his home and found 94 grams of crack cocaine and nearly $2,300.
At the time the Connecticut man was arrested on the drug trafficking charges, he was on probation. The man also had also been convicted of prior drug offenses.
In addition to the prison sentence of 20 years, the man will also serve eight years of supervised release.
